Working with corn husks has been a restorative journey for me. This native Mesoamerican plant, whose grain has long sustained life, is often dismissed as agricultural waste. Yet, since pre-hispanic times, its fibers have played a vital role in crafts, a technique that, while fading, endures thanks to the women who continue to weave and knot these materials into meaningful objects.By repurposing waste and reclaiming social symbols, I pay homage to ancestral practices. This work highlights collective, female, and tribal efforts that honor the environment, aiming for a communion that surpasses individualism. In my pieces, the process becomes the content, transforming husks into small objects that coalesce into textile paintings.
